Thali and momos on brass plates, pub favourites done properly, and a list of King Valley and Rutherglen growers poured by the glass. The room is built out of reclaimed timber, which is where the name comes from.

The room
The wine wall is made of pallets. That is not a look, it is the point.
A long, narrow shopfront on Standish Street. Old floorboards, exposed brick, black industrial pendants on a track, and running the whole length of one wall, reclaimed timber pallets turned on their side and racked out with bottles. Greenery hangs from the ceiling. There is a communal bench at bar height and bentwood chairs at the low tables, and two umbrellas out the front under the crepe myrtles when the weather is behaving.
It is a family-run place, and one of the nicest things anyone has written about it came from a local: thank you for bringing a Nepali cafe to our town.

The kitchen
Nepalese food, and the pub favourites you came in for.
Both sides of the menu run at once, which is why a table can order a full thali and a plate of crispy pork belly and nobody has to compromise.

Steamed in the bamboo basket and brought to the table in it, with tomato achar and a green chutney on the side.

Crackling still loud, with basmati rice, a sharp garden salad and a dipping sauce. One of the pub favourites that sit alongside the Nepalese side of the menu.
Chicken lollipops come out with a mint sauce that takes the edge off the spice. The kitchen also runs a Nepalese style curry, and there is gelato available all day.
Before the wine
It is a cafe first, from eleven in the morning.
Proper espresso, poured properly. Breakfast and brunch plates, a smoothie bowl built out on the counter with coconut, chia, cashews, pepitas and berries. Shelves stocked with local produce. Gelato in the cabinet all day, which is the correct answer to a hot afternoon in the Ovens Valley.
Then somewhere around the evening the lights come down, the wine wall does its job, and the same room turns into the winebar.

Pizzini and Brown Brothers out of the King Valley, Jones from Rutherglen, Chateau Tanunda and Sidewood alongside them. Everything by the glass is twelve dollars.
